One of my biggest gripes about being a graphic designer is the long hours plonked like a lump in front of the Mac. Now I know I have all the other hours that I’m not working to go out and have some exercise but it just never seems to happen. It’s either raining or too late or too early or some other pathetic excuse that allows me to keep my butt planted firmly in place.
Well not anymore! A brand new NordicTrack T12 Treadmill has just been delivered into the Martian office from Elite Fitness. Well, the garage next to the office. But the point is that it is right there and can be used in any weather, any time of day. So no more excuses for me! Elite Fitness are currently (as of this posting this) running a sale on a lot of great gear and I picked up the T12 with a $700 discount.
The T12 is a fantastic piece of kit. It’s fully programmable, has built in iPod / MP3 player dock and takes the iFit programmed fitness cards featuring Jillian Michaels (the scary trainer from the Biggest Loser TV Series). Simply bung in the memory card and Jillian will start your fitness programs and increase the difficulty as the days pass.
The T12 can also be equipped with wireless cleverness that will let you access the iFit website via your laptop. There you can program your own real life route on google maps! It even adjusts the incline to match the hills on your virtual route. Now you can run around the neighbourhood without leaving the house – but why run there when you can run around Paris or Moscow!
I’ve scheduled jogging breaks from the Mac which is not only good for fitness but also a great reason to unplug from the computer for a while which is just plain good health.
So if I sound out of breath when I answer the phone it’s because I have just been for a jog and I’m probably having a heart attack.

Wow – the Tough Guy and Gal run was awesome! Made it through the whole 12km, not in any record time but it’s still a finish. It was very wet and crowded but we all lasted the distance – Woohoo!
Have managed to do a 6km, 9km and even a 12km long run/jog on the treadmill in preparation for the Waikato Draught Tough Gay/Gal Mud Run next week. I know it’s not the same as running cross country an thru mud but I need to know psychologically that I can go the 12km distance.
Wow… a huge jump between ifit level 1 and level 2. Have read a lot of ppl complaining about this online. The last sessions in level 1 do not get anywhere near first sessions in level 2. Oh well, at least you can adjust them as you go. 7 kg down now and everything I wear is baggy
Will be starting iFit Level 2 tomorrow. A big leap up from level 1 so I may feel like I’m dying again. On a positive note; I’ve lost 5kg so far with the help of sensible eating tossed into the mix.
The workouts are definitely getting easier even though the workout programs are getting progressively harder. If that makes sense. What I mean is I only feel slightly like I’m dying now rather than feeling like I should be walking towards a bright light like I was when I first started.
I recommend following it up with a large plate of beans, bacon and cheese filled sausages … can’t go wrong!
Just a follow up – I just did my first Jillian Michaels iFit treadmill session with and I haven’t suffered a heart attack.
